Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Washington Blvd., Arlington, Virginia       The Community Assistance Bureau in the Economic Independence Division (EID) is seeking an experienced clinician to supervise a team of ten human services clinicians/social workers which provides pre-assessment, crisis intervention and intensive short-term assistance linking vulnerable populations to community resources and public assistance benefits. This Human Services Clinical Supervisor (Community Assistance) provides support to the team while collaborating closely with other team supervisors within EID and DHS Divisions to ensure integrated practices across program areas. The successful candidate will have experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment providing mental health services, crisis intervention, crisis management, case management, and serving the homeless and/or chronically homeless populations.

Duties include:
  • Providing clinical and administrative oversight to staff to ensure quality service in the provision of crisis support services to a culturally diverse population;
  • Selecting, training, coaching, and providing technical oversight to staff while evaluating staff performance to ensure compliance, productivity, and development;
  • Planning and monitoring the team's budget;
  • Reviewing case records to assess adherence to policy, appropriate use of resources, and linkages to other programs;
  • Serving as a point of contact for other Divisions and community partners on behalf of EID Community Assistance Bureau; and
  • Representing EID on a variety of committees including Shelter, Permanent Supportive Housing, and Data & Evaluation.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum:
  • Master's degree in Social Work/Counseling, Psychology or directly related clinical discipline which required a clinical practicum prior to graduation involving diagnostic, treatment, and case management services;
  • Considerable (three years) of full-time post-Master's degree experience providing direct clinical social work/counseling or clinical mental health services to include at least two years providing clinical case management (mental health, homeless services or intake services) and at least one year of experience coordinating/administering crisis prevention services; and
  • Licensure at the clinical level in Virginia or license eligible within one year of hire.
Substitution: A directly related higher level clinical degree may substitute for the Master's degree requirement and one year of professional clinical social work experience. In the case of this substitution, remaining qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Virginia clinical license or license eligible as an LPC, LCSW, LCP or LMFT;
  • Supervisory experience; and
  • Program planning and strategic planning experience.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. An offer of employment will be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history.  Additional Information: Work Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some occasional on call hours may be required for emergency consultation to human services clinicians/social workers.
