Job Description Position: Crew Member Division: Data FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Project Manager or designee Location: Ashland, VA Region: Nationwide SUMMARY Perform the installation and maintenance of all types of in pavement and roadside traffic monitoring systems and stations at locations nationwide. Perform construction tasks involving physical labor located along Interstate, Primary and Secondary roadways. Previous experience operating hand and power tools in a noisy and dirty environment. Work includes cleaning and preparing sites, digging holes and trenches, saw cutting pavement, demolishing concrete, removing brush and installing maintenance of traffic devices. Work is normally performed on the side of and/or on highways and roads often at nights and/or weekends. Operate various pieces of equipment used in construction. Safety is a high priority on all work activities. May assist other craft workers as required. Travel is required and may include as many as three weeks or more at a job site. All hours worked over 40 hours per week will be paid as overtime. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Day and night work is required, including overtime hours. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform quality control duties on job sites. Participate directly in on-site maintenance, service, and installation activities of roadside traffic monitoring materials and devices. Work outdoors 6-12 hours a day while being exposed to various weather conditions, dust and construction site hazards. Work changing schedule, often nights. Drive company vehicles and operate company equipment as necessary Operate assigned equipment while adhering to safety procedures Adhere to construction project management and DTS policies and procedures Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals Complete other duties as assigned EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required Valid current driver's license is required (CDL preferred). Must pass pre-employment background investigation to meet company standards. Must pass and maintain DOT Physical examination certificate to meet company standards. Must pass pre-employment drug screen to meet company standards. Must pass and maintain fitness for a Pulmonary Functioning (Spirometry) Test, to meet OSHA requirements for the respiratory protection program. This test shows how well you can move air in and out of your lungs. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Basic mathematical skills: add, subtract, and multiply in all units of measure. Prior knowledge of construction techniques. Effective communication skills. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly working near traffic. The employee is frequently exposed to high speed vehicular traffic and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Working six to twelve hours per day is common, while being exposed to weather, dust, and construction site hazards.
