Responsibilities: The Accounting Associate is the proficient level in sub-professional accounting-auditing work; performs with limited supervision. This position assists the Bursar in the daily operations of the Student Accounts Office and lends supervisory guidance to Accounting Clerk II and Cashiers; exercises initiative and make sound decisions based on agency and state policies and procedures; performs extensive customer service; monitors and reviews work flow completed by Account Clerks and Cashiers; reviews all transactions posted to assigned accounts by ensuring all account activity is recorded, all adjustments are calculated and corrections made; oversees, processes, maintains and audits Third Party data. Reviews and/or processes financial documents such as invoices, vouchers, receipts, requisitions and reports, ensuring accuracy of mathematical computations and completeness; resolves discrepancies; performs analysis of accounts receivable data such as reviewing entries, verifying amounts and comparing and reconciling balances; reconciles, researches, and resolves credit card and ACH payment issues; provides a consistent level of customer service relating to inquiries about payments and processing regarding their billing and registration activity. This requires being aware of and adhering to all privacy rules including the campus provisions for FERPA; coordinates interface activities between Third Party contributors such as GoArmy, ROTC, TouchNet, and Bank Mobile; coordinates reconciliation of departmental receipts posted to accounts receivable and general ledger; performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting-clerical work. Three (3) years must have included bookkeeping and/or accounting experience and supervision of one (1) or more accounting-clerical employees. Experience in a customer service environment. Extensive knowledge of the procedures used in keeping financial records, bookkeeping principles, methods and procedures. Thorough knowledge and ability in modern office routines, equipment and machines including computer literacy; general knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and auditing. The ability to organize activities and lend supervision to employees; assist in formulation and modification of customer service activities and related work methods; evaluate work performed by others and to analyze accounts and formulate correct solutions.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Periodic overtime required and extended hours.
SALARY: $35,728 - $45,088 GRADE: 9
