  • Basic Requirements-SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Do you have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position? To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-8 grade level in the Federal Service. Technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical
    work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided
    intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes; Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
    OR
    EDUCATION GS-9: Successfully completed two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time
    study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, eighteen (18) semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
    OR
    COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: having the equivalent combinations of specialized experience and successfully completed graduate education as described above to meet the total experience requirements to qualify at the GS-9 level? (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
    AND
    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-9: Specialized experience also includes: having Knowledge and experience with complex analog and digital building information systems (e.g.
    BIM, Revit), computer aided design and drafting (CADD) electronic documentation, work order
    management systems (e.g. AEMS/MERS, Maximo), and tracking tools for environment of care
    (EOC) deficiencies; determining the action necessary to maintain a high level of performance for these critical support systems; maintaining facility documents; Record drawings and space survey of the medical center are maintained to assure an accurate and up-to-date document of using service assignment, room numbers, size, layout, and function; and experience with office computer applications for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and presentation.

    Certification:
    Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.

    IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.     Physical Requirements: The work involves regular walking, bending, climbing, and crawling in or around the facility and construction sites. Work hours can vary from the norm depending upon the circumstances surrounding project performance and building management system operation, which can entail night, weekend, and/or extended work hours.

    Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
