Research Technician I for Molecular Oncology, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) is to a state-of-the-art cancer center housing more than 240,000 square feet of clinic and research space. Lombardi's mission is to provide the most advanced treatments available, to train future cancer specialists, and to cure cancer in its many forms.  Lombardi is one of only 45 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, and the only one in the Washington metropolitan area.

The Research Technician I, in an entry level position, supports NIH-funded research on tumor metabolism, mitochondria and the p53 gene product. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician I has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains cell lines and tissue culture.
  • Creates frozen stocks and written laboratory records for cell lines used in the laboratory.
  • Performs immunoblot, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitations, and metabolic and cell toxicity assays.
  • Assists other laboratory personnel with the maintenance of various mice strains, including genotyping and analysis of different tissues for specific levels of various protein and drug treatment studies.
  • Maintains laboratory records, organizes back-up files for data generated, orders supplies, manages the lab's inventory of materials, and maintains the lab's research protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to acquire in a reasonable time frame the techniques needed for successful accomplishment of the laboratory research
  • Preference for some laboratory experience
