The Kingsbury Center is one of the oldest nonprofit educational institutions in the Washington area that addresses the special needs of young children, adolescents and adults who experience learning difficulties. The Center is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist for the 2018-2019 school year. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and education.

Under the direction of the administrative team, the Dedicated Aide collaborates with the Lead Teacher to create, implement and support the daily lesson plan and classroom instruction.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Provide direct and indirect clinical services to students diagnosed with an academically-based communication disorder in areas of articulation, languages and/or fluency
  • Provide and complete comprehensive diagnostic assessments of speech, voice and language impairments
  • Determine the presence or absence of a specific communication disorder which adversely impacts academic progress
  • Serve as a resource to school staff members by developing a balanced program for oral communication and speech, language and literacy development
  • Provide therapy to meet the individual needs of students with diagnosed communication impairments
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plan (IEP)/Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) goals to meet the individual communications needs of the student
  • Upload all treatment logs to Special Education Data System (SEDS) within 24 hours of a session and meet all of Kingsbury’s six-week, four-week and two-week deadlines; document all due diligence efforts made
  • Upload all assessment reports to SEDS the same day service was delivered and document all due diligence efforts made
  • Sign Student Passports within 24 hours of notification by Related Services Manager
  • Comply with internal billing system and rectify any discrepancies or questions in a timely fashion in consultation with Chief Operating Officer
  • Maintain accurate documents, including assessment reports and progress notes, destroying confidential files in accordance with federal and state law regarding student data
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments
  • Participate in Student Support Team and Student Review meetings
  • Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language impairments
  • Conduct speech and language screenings
  • Coordinate assistive technology support services
  • Serve as a marketing resource at school fairs and on school outreach initiatives
  • Provide speech-language services content for Kingsbury print and online communications venues, including Kingsbury Day School and Kingsbury Center web sites, blog and social media channels
  • Disseminate subject matter expertise to colleagues as well as through formal professional development opportunities

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology
  • Certification as a Speech Language Pathologist
  • Eligible for American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology. ASHA Certificate must be completed within four years of hire date
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Able to sit in a stationary position, move throughout the campus, operate a computer, ascend and descend stairs, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Able to lift, move or transport equipment and/or furniture weighing up to twenty pounds across campus to various classrooms and events
  • Able to work in outdoor weather conditions
