Position Description:
This is a senior IT position directly responsible for the oversight of daily operations and management of IT Analyst staff and processes in support of UMC's Hospital-based and ambulatory-based clinical and business computer applications, enterprise-wide.

This position contributes to the budgeting and planning process for Information Technology. As a key member of the IT Management Team, this position is responsible to help ensure that the Organization is compliant with all guidelines and/or regulatory requirements as established by authoritative entities such as The Joint Commission and the Federal and Local Governments.

This role participates in short and long-term health information technology planning, and will be accountable for the delivery of simultaneous projects and the development of their timelines for delivery.

Manages a team of 5+ clinical and business applications analysts and assures that they remain positive and on track with the goals of the organization and the IT Department.

This position plays a key role in identifying opportunities for health information technology to be used to the benefit of the Organization and its customers and for building consensus for the adoption and implementation of such technologies. Makes critical decisions and exercises independent judgment. Forecasts trends and helps set the direction for the Hospital with respect to IT and participates in planning with senior level management; makes program decisions that frequently have major impacts on the entire healthcare operation.

Required Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or other germane undergraduate discipline is required. A Nursing Degree, Medical Degree, or Clinical Degree accompanied by computer-related work experience may be considered favorably in lieu of the other specified computer degrees.
  • A minimum of 7 years of broadly based, progressive health information technology experience with responsibility and supervision of complex organizational structures, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a corporate IT healthcare environment and/or IT healthcare consulting organization, is required.
  • Experience with a Meditech Hospital Information System (HIS) is preferred.
  • An excellent working knowledge of computer concepts is required.
  • Ability to lead and motivate with a global orientation to the business of healthcare.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all types of personalities inside and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously under challenging deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal daytime work hours and take on projects at short notice.
  • Experienced facilitator, diplomat, and group negotiator/mediator.
  • Minimum typing skills of 35 words per minute are required.
  • Excellent project management and resource management skills.
  • Excellent management of customer relations and expectations.
