The Operations and Engineering Division at STScI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Systems Engineering Branch (SEB). In this role, you will supervise and lead system engineers who are responsible for systems engineering on the HST, the JWST, and the WFIRST missions.

**Your Role**

The Engineering Manager (called a Branch Manager at STScI) supervises, provides technical direction and mentors system engineers who are responsible for systems engineering activities for the HST, the JWST, and the WFIRST missions. This position requires you to apply your experience in system engineering and software engineering/development life-cycle methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc.) in solving challenging engineering problem.

As a Branch Manager, your responsibilities in this role include:

  • You coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities. Analyze technology, and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
  • You participate in the development of standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed at STScI and implement them within the branch
  • You recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competences
  • You perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, and enforcing STScI Policies

SEB Branch Manager will also participate in performing system engineering efforts carried out by the engineering and development teams. This will include involvement in the all system engineering phases throughout the entire life cycle of our missions.

Job Requirements and Your Qualifications:

We invite you to apply if you have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Astronomy, Physics, or a related scientific or technical field and a minimum of 10 years of progressive technical, management and leadership experience. You possess effective communication skills.

Demonstrated experience with:

  • Managing or supervising staff and understanding and designing large complex systems
  • Systems engineering and/or software engineering
  • System development life-cycle methodologies
  • Project management. PMP certification preferred
  • NASA system engineering standards is a plus

Candidates must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident. ITAR clearance is required.
