Pillar Construction, Inc. a full-service specialty contractor, has an opportunity for an experienced Construction Safety Officer to join our team.  In this role, you will be responsible to develop and manage safety aspects of the company’s construction projects.  We are headquartered in Alexandria Virginia and have projects in D.C. and the Tristate areas.

The Construction Safety Officer will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the company Safety Program. This person will perform safety, health and environmental, reviews at the project(s) to ensure implementation and compliance of company and government/regulated standards. This person will be a resource to the project(s) in preventing occupational injury/illness related losses by establishing appropriate loss control/reduction activities.

The ideal candidate will have high attention to detail, a genuine care to his/her work, a team player and will be able to maintain a high level of business ethics while performing assigned duties. 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs safety reviews of the project(s) to include producing reports, site safety audits identifying safety hazards, reporting findings to management, and following up to ensure items are corrected.

Collaborate with Site Project Management to develop Site-Specific Safety Plans and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) for submittals and project tasks.

Conducts company Safety orientations for new hires as required.

Partners with project management, company employees and project contractors to ensure the implementation of the company’s comprehensive Safety Program. This includes providing guidance and leadership to the Project Team.

Conducts investigations on accidents/incidents and near misses to include corrective actions and post-incident meetings.

Maintains required safety and health documents, files, etc.

Conducts safety trainings, including site specific orientations to workers when required.
 

QUALFICATIONS:

  • OSHA 500 – preferred.
  • OSHA 30 – required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior related experience.
  • Strong regulatory knowledge in federal, state and local EPA, OSHA, DOT etc. regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as required.
