Find out more hereJoin our TalentNetwork GDIT is seeking a Clinical Veterinarian to perform the following tasks and responsibilities:Relief Veterinary Care and Treatment of Government, Privately Owned, and Indigenous Animals: Provides Military Working Dogs (MWDs) and other government-owned animals direct full service veterinary care and treatment. Veterinary care and treatment are provided to privately owned animals as part of a program to promote health and well-being among the eligible population and their privately owned animals. This program will be designed to prevent privately owned animals from contributing to economic or environmental problems. Veterinary care of government-owned animals varies from limited/emergency care to definitive veterinary care, hospitalization, and surgery. The level of veterinary care depends upon mission requirements, the size of the area of responsibility, and the type of veterinary facilities available. Provides emergency treatment to government animals as necessary. Supervises both military and civilian personnel. Provides training and guidance to both civilian and military personnel. Serves as consultant to Medical Treatment Facility Commander and Garrison Commander on animal bites, rabies control, and zoonotic disease control within established regulation and guidelines. Provides medical treatment and services in the DOD facilities to authorized personnel. Examines, vaccinates, and treats animals within the scope of veterinary service guidelines. Interprets laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic procedures. Performs necropsies as necessary. Ensures medical test samples are properly prepared and shipped. Explains medical findings to clients, maintains proper SOAP format and legible animal health records. Conducts physical examinations prior to issuance of Health Certifications and release of rabies quarantine suspects. Must be familiar with the requirements to ship animals anywhere in the world. Informs the local and state public health officials, immediate supervisor, District Veterinary Commander upon diagnosis of reportable zoonotic and/or public health diseases.Veterinary Preventive Medicine: Provides professional guidance and support to help prevent and control those animal diseases or conditions that may be transmissible to humans and animals or may constitute a community health problem. Prevention and control programs may include, but are not limited to: surveys for the detection of disease in domestic and wild animals; confinement of stray animals and rabies suspects; diagnostic tests, examinations, and treatment for zoonotic diseases; vaccination programs, isolation and/or eradication of suspect or diseased animals, disease reservoirs, and disease vectors; and continuing education programs. The stray animal program will include sterilization of adopted animals and euthanasia of those animals that are not adoptable. Provides technical advice concerning food safety and quality assurance issues; identifies and provides technical information on microbiological, chemical, physical deterioration, and security of subsistence. Operational Veterinary Care Advisor to the Global Veterinary Medical Practice Chief of Operations.
