Saint Joseph Catholic Community, located in Sykesville, Maryland, is seeking candidates for a Coordinator of Adolescent Faith Formation. The coordinator is responsible for the parish's faith formation efforts for adolescents of (primarily) middle-school age. The position is part-time with proportionate time spent in the coordination of the religious education (catechetical) program and emerging family/inter-generational programs as developed. The Coordinator functions as a member of the Pastoral Ministry team and works especially in collaboration with the Coordinator of Children's Faith Formation and the Pastoral Associate for Evangelization and Adult Faith Formation under the leadership and direction of the Director of Mission. Job Responsibilities: Program Development Implement the parish vision of evangelization, catechesis, and faith formation as expressed in the Saint Joseph Catholic Community Parish Pastoral Plan, the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, the National Directory for Catechesis/the General Directory for Catechesis and other national and archdiocesan documents, ensuring that the teaching of the Church is faithfully presentedCoordinate parish-based catechetical experiences for adolescents in accordance with the principal elements of catechesis and with sound principles of learning for those in adolescenceAssist other staff as needed when unbaptized young adolescents seek full initiationOversee curriculum development, selection of curriculum resources and program design for classroom and family-based programsSupport/Resource homeschool based religious education programming (for those families that choose it)Collaborate with other faith formation staff to provide occasional family and/or inter-generational experiencesCollaborate with the Director of Mission and other staff in ongoing evaluation of faith formation programming and the development of new initiatives and programsAs a general practice, be available during sessions of weekly catechetical programming or provide for a system of grade/section coordinatorsCatechist/Leader Recruitment, Formation and Supervision Recruit and interview catechists/aides/leaders for the programsProvide for initial and ongoing catechist/aide/leader training (including Archdiocesan programs) using adult learning models and a variety of formational processes. (This includes all mandated youth protection training programs.)Facilitate ongoing support of catechists/aides/leaders and develop a faith community among catechistsProvide for the supervision and evaluation of all catechists/aides/leadersAdministration/Staff Establish and execute effective procedures for registration, record-keeping, communication, accounting and purchasingIdentify problem areas and manage conflictsWhen needed, meet with the Christian Formation Commission, facilitating discussion of programs and utilizing input from such discussions in program developmentCollaborate with the Director of Mission and other staff in ongoing evaluation of faith formation programming and the development of new initiatives and programsCollaborate with the Director of Mission and other faith formation staff in the preparation of appropriate elements of the parish's budgetAdminister the budget through the year, monitoring income/expenses and reviewing quarterly financial statementsParticipate in staff meetings and staff in-service days as requiredSupervision The Coordinator of Adolescent Faith Formation is responsible for the direction, supervision, and evaluation of volunteer coordinators for grade-levels and volunteers in the program. He/She will also provide input to the Director of Mission regarding the direction, supervision and evaluation of the Administrative Assistant for Faith Formation.The Coordinator of Adolescent Faith Formation (like all staff) is ultimately accountable to the Pastor and reports to the Director of Mission who is responsible for the Coordinator's supervision and evaluation. An initial evaluation is completed after a three-month probationary period; formal performance appraisals take place annuallyJob Requirements: This position is open to confirmed, practicing Roman Catholics, fully able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church. Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education, Theology, Youth Ministry or Pastoral Ministry (approved equivalency will be considered, but a willingness to pursue academic credentialing is expected)A Master's Degree in the above mentioned fields will be given preferential considerationThree or more years management or supervisory experienceAt least two years of experience in developing and providing faith formation/catechetical ministry in a parish settingDemonstrates creativity, imagination, and initiativeExcellent communication skills: demonstrated commitment to hospitality-especially with parentsExcellent planning and organizational capabilities; a skilled administrator, capable of maintaining contact with a large number of people and comfortable with the management of multiple goals and tasksSkill in facilitation, collaboration, and negotiation, especially with fellow staff, parish volunteer leadership, volunteer ministry coordinators and parentsAbility to direct, form, manage and evaluate volunteer staffSkill in adult learning and leadership development
