Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Evaluation of Education:
Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the Basic Requirements, in order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as:
- Expertise with development of algorithms and methods for detecting and preventing network attacks.
- Developing and maintaining custom code to analyze network traffic and associated protocols including attack and defense methodology on high-risk networks.
- Expertise in software testing procedures, code verification and validation.
- Expertise with computer theory, algorithms, data structures, programming concepts and languages and computer architecture.
- Providing oversight of teams in identifying vulnerabilities in software code of IP-based and other mission networks, and developing potential options for exploiting those vulnerabilities.
- Performing supervisory duties such as providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues.
