Director, Canine Operations

Premiere provider of service dogs for veterans with disabilities and/or disorders seeks a full time Director, Canine Operations.  Veterans Moving Forward (VMF) is a non-profit, 501c3 organization with headquarters and a training center located in Sterling, Virginia.  See

The Director, Canine Operations, reports to the VMF Executive Director and is responsible for developing and delivering a consistent and quantifiable, quality approach to service dog training at VMF.  Among the broad set of responsibilities are managing acquisition of puppies, managing puppy raiser program, teaching Service Dog in Training (SDiT) classes, closely monitoring SDiTs development, recruiting and training volunteer puppy raisers, sitters and trainers, ensuring the well-being of SDiTs and Service Dogs, facilitating service dog placement ensuring regular contact with veterans matched with service dogs and oversee the Canine Therapy Service Coordinator. 

The Director, Canine Operations shall have a minimum of five years of recent (within 1-3 years) experience training dogs, including service dogs, or instructing other dog trainers and hold a current membership in a canine professional organization.  The ideal candidate will annually pursue continuing education (CEU) training with an emphasis on topics related to training and providing service dogs for veterans.
