Assistant Dean, Chief Housing Officer
The Position: Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for University Life, this position provides leadership to a 6,500 bed university housing and residence life program that is distributed throughout 40 campus residence halls, occupying approximately 2 million square feet of space over three campuses. The Assistant Dean is responsible for a $47 million budget and the supervision of 150 full-time staff and over 300 student staff members. This position also has division level responsibilities for living-learning community operations, housing operations at two regional campuses, and dean level student conduct and administrator on-call duties. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for creating an environment where staff members are dedicated to creating a home that enriches the experiences of students, staff, and faculty.
Qualifications: Required qualifications include advanced degree (masters or doctoral) in higher education, student personnel, business, or an appropriate field; 15 years of progressively responsible university experience, at least five of those years should be at the housing director level; experience working in a comprehensive housing system that contains budget management, occupancy management, housekeeping/facilities, and residence life; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; experience supervising a large and diverse team; experience managing critical incidents; strong ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships across multiple constituencies. Experience with public/private housing partnerships would be seen as advantageous.
