Program Manager for Academic Affairs and Research Education
The purpose of this position is to provide programmatic and technological support for programs, projects, committees and events undertaken by the Academic Affairs and Research Education (AARE) unit. This position serves to help meet the objectives of the Association's strategic initiatives pertaining to higher education data collection in communication sciences and disorders, the educational and research preparation of audiologists, speech‑language pathologists, and speech-language and hearing scientists; the ongoing career support of faculty–researchers; and efforts to enhance awareness of the association’s educational initiatives and resources.
- Manage the development, functionality, and processes for deploying and administering the CSD Education Survey and EdFind.
- Serve as technical administrator to build, test, and troubleshoot award competition templates and standard reports using established platforms.
- Manage the development, functionality, and processes for the unit's intranet sites.
- Coordinate, develop, and update the unit's webpages and advise on best practices.
- Recommend standard operating procedures and process/structure improvements for the unit's documentation and organization across platforms.
- Develop and update communications disseminated via the web, e-mail broadcasts, ASHA Community discussion groups, and social media.
- Provide technical assistance to members of the academic and research communities and national office staff regarding programs, activities, and resources implemented by the unit. Track inquiries and evaluate sufficiency of existing informational resources based upon inquiry trends and advise about needed resources.
- Assist with information gathering and develop and maintain databases to organize information in support of the work of the program.
- Serve on national office teams to implement initiatives pertinent to the unit as part of the association's strategic plan.
- Stay informed about current trends and resources pertaining to academic, clinical, and research education, graduate/undergraduate education, funding opportunities, and faculty–researcher careers in communication sciences and disorders in order to respond to general inquiries and appropriately refer to available resources.
Knowledge Typically Acquired Through
- BA/BS degree
- 3–5 years' experience in program management working in a professional setting
- Experience communicating with higher education faculty–researchers, members of professional associations, and/or students preferred
Scope and Depth of Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated program management abilities and knowledge of project management principles
- Demonstrated advanced skills utilizing current day software applications and platforms
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; independently compose correspondence and technical documents
- Demonstrated advanced use of technology to organize and execute work (e.g., Office 365, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, netFORUM, databases, electronic discussion boards, Internet, GoToMeeting, Google Docs)
