In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement for Librarians applicant must have 1 year of specialized experience at the PG-7 (or equivalent) level or higher. Examples of qualifying specialized experience includes: working in a Federal Depository Library or with collections of U.S. Federal documents; skills using Superintendent of Documents Classification; serial issue check-in and the processing of serial publications in the Integrated Library System (ILS).
Applicant must have completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science; OR equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D. related to the position.
Applicant does not have 1 full year of specialized experience at the PG-7 (or equivalent) as described above. Applicant did not received a master's (or equivalent) degree; nor have applicant completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's (or equivalent) degree; nor have applicant received an LL.B., or J.D., related to this position as described in Option B, above. However, I have a combination of experience and education that equals at least 100% of the total requirement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement(06/15/2018) to be considered.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may/may not be used for this grade level.
As a basic requirement, all librarians must have professional education in library science or possess equivalent experience and/or education as shown below. Please select the statement that best describes your level of experience and/or education.
A. I have a completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree.
B. I have a total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must show conclusively that the education, training and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a suitability clearance.
