The Vice President of Accounting will manage a team of 2-3 managers and 8-12 property accountants. This position will take a leadership role within the department and will assist with overseeing the integration of new properties into the portfolio, developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and SEC/SOX requirements, and managing the financial close process to ensure deadlines are met. Responsibilities Include the following (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs): Supervise a team of 2-3 accounting managers and 8-12 project accountants. Duties include: Meet regularly to review and discuss teams accounting workload and upcoming deadlines Provide guidance for recording journal entries including property sales, loan refinancings, recapitalizations and other complex transactions Set goals for team and evaluate performance throughout the year with a focus on the team members career development Perform detailed review of financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with monthly/quarterly/annual financial close procedures , US GAAP, SEC/SOX or other reporting requirements Review financial data included in SEC filings and assist with preparation of supporting schedules or footnotes as needed Support Asset Management, Property Management, Development and other internal groups to produce accounting information and communicate changes in accounting policies Coordinate with public accounting firms to produce audited financial statements and year-end tax returns in accordance with deadlines Qualifications Team player who is organized, proactive, self-directed , conscientious and assumes accountability and responsibility for specific performance and work product for themselves and their team Must possess strong organizational and leadership skills and attention to detail Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills Must possess strong interpersonal skills and feel comfmtable managing a team and providing constructive feedback on a regular basis Education/Training/Experience: CPA required Bachelors degree in accounting or Bachelors degree in another field with relevant accounting experience 7 years of accounting work experience, including 3 years of management experience Real estate experience required, public REIT experience is a plus Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting required . Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS") is a plus Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products is required Experience with the Yardi Accounting System is a plus
