The Electrician provides a safe, functional, clean, efficient and attractive living and learning environment. The Electrician is a skilled, licensed DC Journeymen responsible for evaluating, repairing and replacing a variety of electrical facility components, to ensure the equipment is fully operational and meets university standards. The Electrician performs preventive measures for the medium voltage system and routine corrective maintenance on wiring, emergency generators, and transfer switches. The Electrician also performs emergency repairs to generators, electrical machinery, sprinkler systems, and fire alarm and access systems.

This position will be involved in corrective and preventive maintenance and minor alteration work and may oversee temporary labor and/or other trades persons or contractors as required. This position requires general supervision and often works independently.

Position Type

Full-time, 40 hours/week

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • DC Journeyman Electrical License
  • 2 years fire alarm experience
  • 4-5 years working journey level experience
  • Basic computer skills/email usage
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read & use blueprints
  • Ability to use meters/testing devices
  • Use & knowledge of electrical codes

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program
  • 2 years’ service truck experience
  • 1-2 years controls service
  • University experience
  • CMMS
  • Controls troubleshooting
  • Microsoft office skills
