Job Title: REAL ESTATE APPRAISER (ENTRY-LEVEL) Closing Date/Time: Thu. 06/07/18 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $44,886.40 - $83,803.20 Annually
Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington *METRO-accessible*, Virginia       Arlington County's Department of Management and Finance is seeking a Real Estate Appraiser to perform entry-level appraisal work within the Division of Real Estate Assessments. This position will be assigned to a team of residential property appraisers and will be responsible for assisting with the determination of residential property values for tax assessment purposes.

Specific duties include:
  • Collecting data for appraisal analysis on residential properties including interviewing property owners or representatives, performing field inspections, reviewing land records, reviewing building permits and construction plans, and collecting and analyzing sales data;
  • Assisting with the development and reporting of annual assessments and making review value recommendations of appealed properties;
  • Researching and providing information about real estate appraisal and assessments to County staff, property owners, the public and other jurisdictions;
  • Participating as a member of a residential team utilizing mass appraisal methodology; and
  • Maintaining familiarity with current trends, code regulations, policies and procedures related to real estate appraisal and assessment.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum: Bachelor's degree in business, real estate, or a related field and professional experience in real estate appraisal.

Substitution: Additional experience in real estate appraisal may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Analyzing technical data;
  • Explaining policies and/or procedures;
  • Dealing with the public or customer service training; and/or
  • Experience with Excel, Dbase, Word, Access or similar software

 Special Requirements: The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

Employee will be required to operate a County vehicle to perform assigned duties at locations other than the primary worksite.

A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are prospective employees. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
 Additional Information: Work Hours: Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm but may be required to attend evening meetings.

Note:  Completion of the Commonwealth of Virginia Statement of Economic Interest form will be required of the successful candidate upon hire and annually thereafter.
