Description The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is a six-time National Gold Medal winner for excellence in Park and Recreation Management. This award is given by the National Recreation and Parks Association, the professional accreditation organization of recreation management. Winning this award on six separate occasions proves our commitment to outstanding service to the community. The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Southern Area Maintenance Division seeks two experienced Park/General Maintenance Worker II's to perform general and skilled park maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety that may involve general grounds keeping and routine building maintenance at Commission parks, recreation buildings, community centers and other developed areas. Incumbents will be regularly working as part of a group, but may be given independent work assignments on occasion. Duties may include, but are not limited to, operation of light-to-medium trucks, trash collection, turf maintenance, ball field maintenance and snow removal. Also, preforms specialized assignments requiring training and/or experience. Examples of Important Duties Operate small to mid-sized equipment including mowers, string trimmers, blowers, chain saws, etc. Perform general park maintenance tasks including mowing, athletic field maintenance, tree planting, custodial tasks, etc. Operate pickup trucks and small dump trucks. Perform trail maintenance, general grounds maintenance, and make minor repairs to park equipment (benches, picnic tables, etc.). Truck and Trailer combinations does not require a CDL. Minimum Qualifications 1. Pass Commission medical examination. 2. Two years of experience in grounds keeping, building maintenance, or park maintenance; 3. Ability to read and write. 4. Valid driver's license. Supplemental Information Primarily works outside, but may work inside on occasion or as assigned. May work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Exposure to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.). Ability to lift up to 100 pounds desirable. Work schedule currently is 6:00 am - 2:45 pm, Monday through Friday; however, schedule may include work at special program events on weekends. THE MARYLAND-NATIONAL CAPITAL PARK AND PLANNING COMMISSION 2017 BENEFIT SUMMARY FOR MERIT SYSTEM EMPLOYEES The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Merit System employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). All plans are optional except the Defined Benefit and Long Term Disability plans. Retirement Programs Defined Benefit Plan (Mandatory Participation) - Plans A, B and E exclude FOP members. Plan Employee Contribution Plan A: 7% of base salary. Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and 8% in excess of SSWB. Plan B: 4% of base salary up to maximum Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and7% in excess of SSWB. Plan C: 9% of base salary. (FOP members only) Plan D: 8% of base salary. (FOP members only) Plan E: 4% of base salary up to maximum Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and 8% in excess of SSWB. Deferred Compensation ICMA-RC 457 plan (Optional) Traditional and Roth IRAs (Optional) Health Insurance Plans (FOP Members Pay 20% for Medical, Prescription and Dental.) All others pay percentage below. Frequency of covered services differs.
