Senior Systems Architect Background: Apex Systems is seeking a Systems Architect to join a Federal marketplace leader in next-generation IT solutions and professional services. For the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM, formerly US-VISIT), our client performs operations and maintenance (O&M) of the Automated Biometric Identification System's (IDENT) production and non-production environments and associated business systems. In support of this effort, they also provide Task Order Management, Datacenter Operations, Disaster Recovery/Continuity of Operations, System Management and Monitoring, Service Request Management, Technology Analysis, and Non-production Support (to include Program Support Systems and Transition). Apex Systems is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to support the Engineering Team. The primary responsibility of the Senior Systems Engineer is to lead the way in architecture, design and implementation of new solutions for the Enterprise IDENT environment. This role will be responsible for architecture and design of both the production and non-production environment. This role will also be responsible for managing small to medium sized engineering efforts to ensure successful completion. Other specific responsibilities include but are limited to: Develops high-level understanding of stakeholder business scenarios and enterprise transaction flows Analyzes functional business requirements and design specifications Participates in analysis, design and construction od next generation IT systems Work with client and internal stakeholders to drive system business requirements Develop detailed technical requirements from business requirements Develop complete system solutions and/or improvements through analysis and detailed documentation Develops an approach for changes based on a proactive assessment of business and enterprise challenges Provide oversight and guidance on how to manage the enterprise environment through operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of system resources Provide technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for improvement to enterprise capabilities Provide detailed system documentation, and review and improve existing documentation Manage small technical efforts or act as technical lead on larger initiatives Closely interacts with subject matter experts from Special Projects, Application Lifecycle, and Technical Analysis teams to stay up-to-date on issues and progress. Required Qualifications & Skills: DHS HQ EOD required to start; must be able to obtain DHS HQ Final Suitability 15+ yrs. relevant experience, or Master's degree and 7+ yrs. relevant experience Professional experience in one or more of the following areas: network concepts and/or infrastructure; computer programming languages, operating systems, databases or middleware Desired Qualifications & Skills: Master's degree in computer engineering, computer science, information systems, or related field of study 12+ yrs professional experience in systems, computer, and/or network engineering supporting large-scale enterprise IT systems Professional experience in systems administration, systems/applications analysis, configuration management, and/or project management Experience with IDENT or USVISIT Experience supporting DHS OBIM Proficiency with MS Visio EEO Employer Apex is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
