PLANNER II Recruitment #18-S2C-1147 Date Opened: 4/23/2018 8:00:00 AM Closing Date: Open until filled Hiring Range: $48,795-$69,679 Department: BUILDING & DEVELOPMENT Job Type: Open and Competitive Full/Part-Time: Full-Time Eligible For: Full Benefits Reg/Temp: Regular JOB DESCRIPTION The Department of Building and Development is seeking candidates for the position of Planner II in the Land Development Division. The Land Development Division provides technical review and oversight of land development applications (such as subdivisions, boundary line adjustments, road dedications, and easements), manages performance and erosion and sediment control bonds, maintains land development records, provides professional guidance to other County agencies related to land development, and provides exemplary customer service. Primary responsibilities of the Planner II include: Review complex land development applications to ensure compliance with County regulations through written correspondence with applicants; provide technical expertise to the Department of Building and Development, other County Departments, and outside agencies; deliver accurate and timely information to the public; and represent the Department of Building and Development at Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission meetings. This position is anticipated to have a heavy emphasis on customer service. The successful candidate must have the ability to analyze complex problems, navigate an intricate land development process, and perform a multitude of professional planning tasks. The chosen candidate must have strong and effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, applicants, the public, and elected and appointed officials. The chosen candidate will assist the Department Ombudsman with responses to land development inquiries via telephone, computer and in person at the Land Development Records Counter. Applicants must maintain a thorough knowledge of County operations, policies, and procedures; possess and maintain a thorough knowledge of County, State, and Federal land use regulations, principles, practices, and methodologies of the planning profession. JOB REQUIREMENTS Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Planning or a related field and two years directly related experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be available for occasional meetings after business hours with members of the public and/or elected officials.
