MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center is actively recruiting for an experienced RN Orthopedic Program Coordinator to join our renowned Perioperative Services Department! This position provides support Monday Friday, 8 hours per day, off shift rotation. 40 hours per week. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Program Development: Leads a multidisciplinary team in the investigation, development and implementation of the standards of care for the orthopedic care patient population. Ensures successful progression and implementation of the program. Defines initial and ongoing capital needs. Balance unexpected tasks while performing ongoing duties. Program Promotion: Provides strategic planning, business development, marketing and outreach. Works with physicians to identify and develop new business opportunities. Develops and monitors the orthopedic care service line strategic plan and capital expenditures in collaboration with administration and other departments as needed. Works with the Director of Perioperative Services and Director of Marketing to develop and execute a marketing plan for orthopedic care services. Promotes the orthopedic care programs to community physicians and the general community. Collaborates with physicians and their office staff, as well as the community in promoting the program. Coordination of Care: Works collaboratively with nursing, case management, Physical Therapy, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure that ordered tests and interventions are completed in a timely manner and to ensure efficient use of resources. Reports variances in required protocols appropriate persons. Serves as a liaison and resource to physicians, staff, patients, families, vendors and departments. Manages continuum of care prior to, during and after surgical experience. Patient Education: Facilitates patient and family education and promotes continuity of care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Coordinates pre and post operative education of orthopedic patients. Follows patients from pre-admission through post-discharge, providing education, support an emphasis towards self-care management and wellness. Liaison/Resource: Serves as liaison and subject matter resource to physicians/staff/patients/families and professional organizations, societies, etc. to ensure that optimal patient care is provided to the orthopedic surgery patient. Attends appropriate committees including Infection Control, and Product Standards for hospital and Surgical Services. Communicates hospitals needs to orthopedic surgeons in a professional manner. Serves as a resource person to facilitate problem solving and decision support for all surgical service lines. Quality and Compliance with Standards of Care: Works with the Quality Dept. to develop data collection methods and processes for tracking and trending quality outcome measure consistent with orthopedic patients. Ensure compliance with core measure initiatives appropriate to service line. Adheres to and promotes infection control and AORN Standards and Recommended Practices in the Operating Room As well as patient care areas. Staff Training/Development/Competencies: In collaboration with the Director and the Education Department, develops, defines and evaluates competencies to ensure staff ability to care for the orthopedic patient. Serves as a mentor for professional practice and team development. Develop and maintain appropriate resources for patient and staff education related to orthopedics. Fiscal Responsibility: Facilitates quality cost efficient patient care and timely discharge via collaboration with the physician, case management, patient and staff. Efficiently demonstrates cost consciousness by organizing work processes within established deadlines, and using supplies, equipment and time according to budgetary guidelines. Monitors and analyzes variances in care delivery and resource utilization. Makes recommendations related to cost saving initiatives for the orthopedic service line. Responsible for coordination of care for orthopedic surgery patients from pre-admission through discharge planning and successful transition to home or appropriate level of care. Serves as a patient and family centered point of contact and actively performs the functions of Case Management within an integrated Case Management/Service Line Coordination model. Performs Utilization Review and Discharge Planning for the Orthopedics population as part of an interdisciplinary team.
