Minimum Qualifications Education/Training High school graduation or equivalent; knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Experience 1 year related customer service experience. License/Certification/Registration No special certification, registration or license required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic computer and keyboarding skills. Ability to perform well with frequent interruptions and to communicate calmly when dealing with emotional patients and visitors. Verbal and written communication skills. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Completes MeL and all competencies on time. Completes Emergency Preparedness training with annual review and updates. Confirms insurance coverage. Obtains authorizations by utilizing online electronic verification system, or other resources, such as, HDX, EVS or Blueline. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Explains regulatory financial requirements to guarantors and collects deposits and deductibles, as required. In Triage, meets, greets and creates a positive first impression for the institution. Alerts nurse when patients present with any complaints that could be perceived as acute or life threatening. Places ID band on each patient. Interviews patients, families and outside sources to obtain complete and accurate demographic and financial information. Inputs data into system for registration, billing and patient tracking. Scans Picture ID cards and insurance cards according to established guidelines 80% of the time. Meets department time and productivity standards on each shift. Maintains flexibility in learning all registration areas. Performs Admitting functions in a timely manner. Works additional time, as requested, when staffing problems occur. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs scanning functions and audit control of records in Azyxxi. Picks up completed records in all clinical areas and performs out-processing functions in SMS. Provides customer service by rounding in the waiting area and documents this practice in the log book.
