Assists in the care of the rehabilitation patients across the continuum of care by providing routine, supportive care. Performs designated advanced technical skills and assists in the implementation of protocols and procedures under the direct supervision of a therapist. Qualifications EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: 6 months related rehabilitation or volunteer experience, or enrollment in occupational therapy, physical therapy or other health occupation curriculum. LICENSE/CERT/REG: Successful completion of MedStar Rehabilitation Services Technician Competency provision within 3 months of hire. SKILLS: Ability to read and follow written directions from a licensed therapist. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Applies non-electrical modalities ensuring patient's understanding of procedure. Conducts periodic inspections to ensure patient safety. Prepares electrical modalities and performs patient set up for therapists. Assists with splinting, taping, bracing, casting, and molding under the direct supervision of a therapist. Instructs patients in wear and care as assigned. Completes all related clerical /receptionist procedures. Ensures completeness of patient billing. Maintains required statistics as directed. Schedules patients as directed. Receptionist functions as directed. Completes or works towards completion of annual goal(s). Conducts and supervises patient therapeutic exercise and functional activities programs under the direct supervision of a therapist. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Ensures equipment at the aquatic pool is maintained. Sets up for the session with needed equipment. Monitors exercises, provides necessary guarding and assists with patient care while in the pool under the guidance and direct supervision from the therapist. Cleans up following the session per procedures. Documents in log book hours at the pool per patient session. Greets and escorts patients. Maintains an active surveillance of and assists in the identification of patient needs and in the implementation of the therapy plan. Maintains as adequate supply to meet program needs including inventory control, inspection and labeling. Operates therapeutic exercise equipment and instructs patient on usage. Ensures that equipment is maintained per protocol. Identifies and reports environmental hazards. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and center in community outreach efforts. Performs other duties as assigned. Prepares different consistencies of foods to be used in swallowing studies. Assists in feeding patients under the direct supervision of a therapist. Prepares wound care patients and sets up sterile field. Assists with wound care treatment under the direct supervision of the therapist. Cleans room and equipment and properly disposes of hazardous waste. Performs site specific task per competencies. Recognizes the need for and requests professional assistance when the condition of the patient changes and communicates such changes to the appropriate therapy personnel.
