Summary of Job Duties: Home Health Aides at MedStar Health VNA make a positive difference by assisting patients with their daily living activities. They are an integral part of the patient care team, as they assist patients to achieve an improved quality of life and level of independence. Qualifications: EDUCATION: Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; high school graduation or equivalent preferred. EXPERIENCE: 6 months home care experience preferred. LICENSE/CERT/REG: CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant), or HHA (Home Health Aide) certification in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia, or any combination as required based on work location(s). CPR certification required. Completion of MedStar Health's home health aide wound, diabetes and CHF competencies after hire. SKILLS: Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborates with case manager or professional staff in the revision and implementation of the Home Health Aide Plan of Care. Performs personal care activities bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, etc. and other related activities such as light meal preparation or personal laundry. Cleans direct patient care area as needed. Assists with transfers and range of motion exercise programs and other procedures as instructed by professional staff. Encourages patient mobility and socialization during visits. Recognizes and responds to special needs of patients/families experiencing terminal illness. Identifies safety hazards in the home.
