MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Inc., is actively recruiting for fulltime Cardiac Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our renowned Cardiac Team! The CardiacInterventional Radiology Technologist will assist physiciansin diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath/Angio/EP Lab specializing in the care of patients undergoing PTCA, stent placement, IABP placement, EP devices and ablations. With increased experience, this position will also provide mentoring to current and new staff, while exhibiting enhanced technical skills. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Cardiac Cath/EP/Angio technologist assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in an invasive procedure arena, specializing in the care of patients undergoing: Basic and complex diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Complex diagnostic procedures may include valvular, congenital defects, pulmonary involvement, radial, brachial and neck approaches, OR Portable procedures, and any research protocols. Basic and complex interventional procedures which may include PTCA, stents, IABP placement and operation, Rotoblator, Laser, thrombolysis procedures (Angiojet), valvuloplasties, coils, peripheral and congenital interventions. Basic and complex angiography procedures which may include PTCA, stents, embolization, biopsies, drain placement, coils, radiofrequency ablation, cryo-ablation, and peripheral interventions. Basic and complex electrophysiological procedures which may include EP studies, implantation of pacemaker, ICD, BIV, ICD and atrial/ventricular ablation. Operation of the physiologic and radiographic equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care. Cross-training to all labs (Angiography, Cardiac Cath and Electrophysiology as applicable) is mandatory. Performs patient care procedures that require additional skill and training with competency such as sheath removal including IABP, Temp pacer and CV lines. Performs in the role of data entry, generating accurate cath reports from diagnostic or interventional procedures. Assist in the orientation of employees and students as requested by management. Patient transportation, good communication and evaluation of patient status during the procedure, provide age and gender specific care, prep access site according to lab standard practice, and perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring. Procedural requirements: Room preparation and breakdown to include fluid preparation with accurate contrast concentrations, stocking rooms, narcotic counts, daily QC checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup, and room cleanup. Prepare sterile procedure tray and patient sterile field appropriately for specified procedure type. Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing badges, lead aprons, goggles, and gloves). Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data on encounter form and enter into hemodynamic and x-ray systems. Function in all roles rotating during the day as defined: Room circulator patient interaction, monitoring/vital signs and procedural documentation, setup equipment such as IABP, power injector, temporary pacer, biopsy, and sterile equipment/catheters/balloons/wires handoffs, running blood oximetry for cardiac output; assist physician with EP Diagnostic and Mapping systems which includes Carto, EPMed and ESI as applicable. Scrub maintains sterile procedure, infectious control, observe all fluid patency of catheters, balloons and manifolds, assist according to physician direction. Monitor functions in the control room operating the x-ray equipment and hemodynamic monitoring equipment, reporting EKG, blood pressure, heart rate, pulse ox changes, recording hemodynamic pressures accordingly, scan pertinent patient and procedural information into hemodynamic system, assist with x-ray equipment and transfer images to digital archive. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager of the cath lab. Qualifications: Graduate of an Accredited Radiology Technology College Current registered ARRT/RT (CI) Certification Must possess and maintain current Maryland State registration/certification as a Radiologic Technologist Current CPR and ACLS Minimum of 2yearsexperience in a Cardiac Cath Lab Must be proficient in performing all invasive cardiac cath procedures Ability to work 10-hour shifts, 7am -5:30pm About MedStar HealthMedStar Health is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for people in Maryland and the Washington, DC, region, while advancing the practice of medicine through education, innovation and research.
