Physician Assistant Inpatient
Job Summary Performs a variety of duties such as history and physicals as well as providing care to assigned patients. Assesses, diagnoses, and documents findings. Writes medical orders and/or prescriptions. Makes clinical decisions relative to patient management through collaboration with physicians. Minimum Qualifications Education/Training Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program accredited by ARC-PA (Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant). Bachelors degree; Masters degree preferred. Experience No experience required. License/Certification/Registration NCCPA (National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants) certification.Current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians. Current BLS (Basic Life Support)/ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Actively participates in Care Coordination Rounds, proactively addressing patient issues. Attends to emergent patient needs and communicate changes in patient status to attending or other appropriate physician. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Gather medication information and prepare discharge forms. Help to recruit and develop Hospitalist/PA teaching rotations. Initiate and follow-up on medical consultation as directed by the physician. Initiates routine medication, diagnostic, and therapeutic orders. Obtains accurate history and physical, reviews medical records, initiates care coordination tool. Communicates admission work up with attending. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Perform or assist with procedures with direct supervision of the physician. Performs emergency life saving procedures as appropriate. Initiates ACLS protocols. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs procedures as appropriate for patient care. Promote Hospitalist/PA service within Franklin Square Medical Center and in the community. Responds to pages in a timely fashion. Stays aware of diagnostic tests reports that require prompt medical intervention. Communicates directly with physician for interventions not covered by standing orders. Writes appropriate admission orders as discussed with attending. Writes progress note in patient's medical record to document patient status, treatment and procedures performed. Dictates discharge summaries as necessary.
