Provides one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of identifying behaviors which are potentially hazardous to self or others. Qualifications EDUCATION: Ability to read and write. EXPERIENCE: Experience related to job preferred. LICENSE/CERT/REG: No special certification, registration or license required. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Answers patient's phone and relays messages. Assists unit staff during their provision of patient care activities, such as retrieving supplies, and talking with patient. Communicates with patients and encourages casual patient verbalization. Participates in minor diversion activities, such as reading to the patient. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Immediately reports observed changes in patient condition. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality. Observes and understands hospital safety standards. Assists unit staff in preventing patients from climbing out of bed by providing diversion activities, such as use of "Busy Blanket" or watching TV. Notifies unit staff if verbal reminders and diversion are unsuccessful in distracting patient. Performs direct observation of patients for the purpose of identification of behaviors that are potentially hazardous to self or others and reports such observations to appropriate personnel in appropriate time frame. Remains attentive to the patient at all times, unless relieved of duty by the patient care staff. Performs other duties as assigned .
