General Summary of Position: The incumbent in this position is a supervisor who provides professional nursing care and participates in and facilitates the management of the operational, personnel and financial activities of the unit. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospitals philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. About MedStar Georgetowns Interventional Radiology Team MedStar Georgetown University Hospital interventional radiology team offers the entire range of vascular, nonvascular and neurological image-guided procedures. For example, IR specialists can break up clots inside arteries, block off blood vessels that feed tumors, treat varicose veins, deliver cancer treatment directly to a tumor through its own blood supply, drain blocked organs, and perform biopsiesall by way of tiny incisions, into which surgical instruments are navigated, under image guidance, to the target area. With advanced techniques and equipment, cutting-edge clinical trials, we are working to maximize patient safety and develop the next generation of treatments. Qualifications: EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelors degree or higher in Nursing preferred. LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: Current DC license as a Registered Professional Nurse upon hire; Certification in BLS and ACLS. EXPERIENCE: Two years of related clinical experience in nursing in a procedure area. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. In-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practice and skills. Competence in clinical area for which application is made. Demonstrated Leadership initiative. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Participates in planning, directing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the nursing care in an acute care interventional procedure area. Provides direct patient care continually monitoring and evaluating the quality of care and services that is provided on the unit. Performs and assures proper performance of: Patient scheduling is performed to maximize efficiency of patient flow. Pre-procedure phone interviews are completed to include review of medical history, current medications and allergies that may contraindicate procedure. Education of patient concerning procedure and giving of pre-procedure instructions. Pre-procedure lab work and support services arranged as required. Pre-procedure assessment of patient and appropriate documentation per hospital policy. Post-procedure care provided, or arrangements made. Discharge per hospital policy. Coordinates and collaborates with nursing staff. Physicians, patients, families and other departments those activities related to patient and unit services. Participates in research and development activities of the unit. Coordinates and documents PI measures and QI functions of the department. Prepares information for submission to appropriate hospital committees and required reporting systems. Assumes all responsibilities for the management of the unit, with the Lead Tech in the absence of the Director. Performs personnel management functions for the designated area to include, but not limited to interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, scheduling, coaching, counseling, evaluating, promoting,and terminating employees as delegated by or with Directors approval. Participates in planning (as delegated) of orientation, training, continuing education programs or other opportunities for learning for the unit and other Hospital staff as appropriate. Participates in monitoring and controlling assigned operational and capital budgets within administrative/departmental guidelines.
