Minimum Education Requirement:
Degree: You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of a bachelor's degree. Studies must have included at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, 12 of which must be in mathematics and 6 of which must be in statistics.
B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: applying mathematical methods and techniques to statistical processes, programs or studies; conducting research, developing plans, or implementing assigned projects requiring the application of mathematical statistical theory; analyzing and evaluating the accuracy and validity of data; and/or developing and applying measures/models to resolve problems.
Education: cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

- Knowledge of different Assistant Division Chief area other than the one in which this position is located or with an outside organization.
- Knowledge of statistics and survey methodology in areas such as experimental design, sample design, survey sampling, estimation, and variance estimation.
- Knowledge of evaluating survey and/or census processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of, or ability to comprehend, various statistical methods such as those used for disclosure avoidance, data editing, and methods to account for nonresponse, such as weight adjustment and imputation.
- Ability to write and run computer programs to implement statistical methodology for production, research and evaluation purposes.
- Ability to communicate assignments, milestones, deadlines and solve work problems.
