Responsibilities SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Advanced Programs Department supporting an acquisition in the NRO GEOINT directorate is looking for a Senior Modeling Remote Sensing Systems Engineer . The Senior Modeling Remote Sensing Systems Engineer will independently model the system performance of a remote sensing system from first principles. They will also lead a cross-organization team that is evaluating the impact of performance changes to mission impact. The Senior Modeling Remote Sensing Systems Engineer will apply their expertise in instrument modeling, atmospheric science, and the application of sensor performance to key intelligence issues. The Senior Modeling Remote Sensing Systems Engineer will work in a fast-paced, small team environment. They will have a daily interface with all levels of Aerospace, customer, and contractor personnel as well as provide weekly and monthly reporting and support ad hoc meetings and briefings. KEY FUNCTIONS Lead the performance modeling effort of a space-based instrument and related airborne instrument as they progress from the design to build stages Apply performance modeling efforts to the development of collection strategies vs. key intelligence targets Identify and prioritize key advanced processing techniques, especially those to be potentially deployed in an automated fashion Lead an Aerospace Engineering Matrix team working performance modeling and advanced algorithm efforts Prioritize efforts and personnel of the Aerospace Engineering Matrix team to develop deliverable plan and schedule, and evaluate effort performance and value Align and manage Aerospace Engineering Matrix resources to evaluate contractor designs and hardware Evaluate design trade-offs and as-built parameters vs. program requirements Qualifications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS BS in engineering, physics, atmospheric science or a related field from an accredited institution Current and Active TS/SSBI Willing and able to be sponsored for additional clearances if necessary This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS At least 12 years related and applicable experience Experience with modeling of remote sensing instruments A working knowledge of space-based remote sensing instruments Ability to apply first principles to modeling and algorithm challenges Strong interpersonal, communication, collaborative, and customer interface skills Ability to support moderate travel PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS An advanced degree in engineering, physics, atmospheric science, or a related technical field from an accredited institution Demonstrated ability to lead the activities of technical staff in the evaluation of complex engineering problems Experience with development, test, and application of advanced data exploitation algorithms Understanding of atmospheric science and applying atmospheric science to remote sensing applications Experience with Customer or other spacecraft acquisition programs Transcript Requirement None Additional Requisition Details System Job Title : PROJECT ENGR SR Clearance Requirement: TS/SSBI Access: SCI Polygraph: Counter Intelligence Polygraph Relocation Available: Yes Employment Type: Regular Work Schedule: Full Time Company Statement The Aerospace Corporation has provided independent technical and scientific research, development, and advisory services to national security space programs since 1960.
