Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) is offering collaborative, energetic, community-oriented leaders the opportunity to become the Head of Teen Services at the Cascades Library in Potomac Falls or the new Brambleton Library in Brambleton Town Center. The Cascades Library is a busy branch library located next to a shopping area, a senior center and several public schools. Located in a diverse and growing community, the Brambleton Library is scheduled to open in October 2018. It will be a 40,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility, featuring a makerspace, recording studio and dedicated spaces for children, teens and adults. As the second LCPL branch to be open Friday and Saturday nights, and with its location in the heart of Brambleton Town Center, Brambleton Library promises to be a natural civic gathering place. Location is subject to change based on operational needs. This job recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies. JOB DESCRIPTION The Head of Teen Services at Cascades Library manages both the Teen Services department and the After Hours Teen Center which operates every Friday night from 7pm to 10pm and often draws over 200 teens. The Head of Teen Services will oversee the Teen Services department, supervise and evaluate staff, plan and conduct programs, serve as a member of the branch management team and ensure the daily delivery of high quality services LCPL staff provide exceptional service that guides teens, parents and guardians in discovering information, ideas, knowledge and skills They lead customers in understanding and making effective use of library resources and technology for learning, communication and entertainment. Successful candidates will develop and preserve effective relationships with staff, customers and the community as well as: Foster a positive team whose performance and dedication are essential to the Library's mission. Be passionate, creative team players with excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Be aware of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in public library services. Possess strong multi-tasking, organizational and technology skills. LCPL provides services seven (7) days a week including Friday and Saturday nights. Work schedules vary and include weekends, evenings and holidays. JOB REQUIREMENTS Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree Minimum 3 years' of related experience is required Supervisory experience strongly preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school is preferred Ability to push or pull wheeled carts weighing up to 200 pounds Some bending, reaching, walking and standing required Ability to lift up to 40 pounds required Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely and effectively, orally and in writing is required Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred.
