Our client's vision is to be the integrated, customer-focused epidemiologic and global health surveillance expert for the US Armed Forces. The Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB) provides timely, relevant, actionable, and comprehensive health surveillance information in order to promote, maintain, and enhance the health of military and military-associated populations. This position will support the Alert & Response Operations team within the AFHSB Integrated Biosurveillance (IB) section. The incumbent will perform event-based and indicator-based surveillance supporting the overall mission of IB. The incumbent will accomplish biosurveillance functions by monitoring sources, verifying information, producing reports, performing high-visibility work, supporting critical medical and public health surveillance activities, and working closely with Combatant Command Medical and Force Health Protection staff to protect and promote the health and readiness of the US Armed Forces. Responsibilities: Maintain daily awareness of global emerging disease occurrences and health events to provide situational awareness support and biosurveillance information products to DoD customers and interagency partners. Monitor, analyze, and communicate trends from militarily relevant data sources to IB leadership. Support an effective DoD biosurveillance program and operational mission for the assigned region of interest. Present formal and informal global public health surveillance findings on diseases of international importance and military relevance at the AFHSB and other DoD meetings, at site meetings with customers and partners, as well as at international exercises, and public health conferences. Produce high-visibility, highly technical products to communicate findings to key stakeholders. Serve as a liaison to one or more geographic combatant command's (CCMDs) surgeon cells. Assist in meeting information requirements of assigned combatant command(s) and other military and civilian programs and projects associated with AFHSB and assigned CCMD(s) needs. Identify, assemble, and analyze information related to specific biosurveillance projects and or events of concern to DoD beneficiary health. Maintain situational awareness of activities to support collaborations between the AFHSB and the CCMD(s) of focus to develop and enhance biosurveillance information products by integrating data and information from various sources both internal and external. Under government oversight, continue open and frequent communications, collaborations, and/or partnerships with key customers (ie CCMDs, Defense Health Agency, other combat support agencies, and Service public health centers) Qualifications: Master's degree in public health or related health discipline. Five or more years' experience in Public Health, Epidemiology, or Infectious Disease. Demonstrated excellence in organization, deadlines, and technical writing skills. Writing samples will be required of those interviewed. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills (both listening and speaking). Must be capable of maintaining strong working relationships with CCMD POCs and other regional assets. Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain Secret clearance. Some travel may be required. Preferred qualifications: DoD public health disease surveillance experience. Experience with foodborne illness disease epidemiology.
