The Screen-out Element for this position is: The Ability to Perform the Duties of a Utilities Systems Operator, WG-5406-10.
- Operating power boilers, chilled water systems and auxiliary equipment (e.g., feed water and fuel pumps, electric driven forced draft fans, air compressors, water softening, and de-aerating equipment).
- Adjusting fuel feed controls
- Changing from gas to oil.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Physical Effort: Frequently works in confined areas in and around boilers, chillers, cooling towers and support equipment (i.e., auxiliary and pollution control equipment). Work requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending and crouching. Frequently lifts and carries parts and chemical supplies weigh up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 50 pounds with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment.
Working Conditions: Employee normally works indoors. Occasionally works outside. When working outside is subject to prevailing weather conditions and works from catwalks and ladders. Employee is subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating equipment, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil and fumes in the work area. Subject to cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from acid, caustics, hot water, steam and contact with pipes and boilers.
