  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduate from the Inspector General School (eight week course) and maintain certification in accordance with regulation.
  • Practice IG attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as an Army IG. Any serious criminal activity, to include drug use, will result in the immediate removal of an employee from IG duty and loss of access to IGARS and IGNET.
  • Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a minimum of a secret-level security clearance.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience as an Inspector General (IG) to conduct interviews of complainants and analyze facts to determine if the case is acceptable for IG action; identify possible violations of laws, regulations or policies which require investigation; conduct pre-investigation for an identified problem or stated allegation in accordance with IG regulatory requirements; AND conduct inquiries into circumstances surrounding the allegations by interviewing personnel and researching records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    The best candidates may be a graduate of the Civilian Education System (CES) basic course and have an associate's degree. These educational qualifications are desirable and not required.

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). *See Required Documents Section*

    • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

    • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
    • Direct deposit of pay is required.
    • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
