Overview United Therapeutics (UT) has partnered with Johns Hopkins University's Institute for Computational Medicine (JHU-ICM) to develop UT's first systems biology lab based in Silver Spring, Maryland, and as a result, we are looking for a Computational Lab Director to support this effort. Your computational biology experience will help us build the lab to be capable of computational modeling of the pulmonary vasculature and airways down to the level of intra-cellular, cell-cell adhesion, and cell membrane-molecule interactions relevant to vascular tone. This focus includes scale-up of effects to cardio-pulmonary hemodynamics, and pulmonary gas exchange, with special attention to the creation of models and algorithms that both elucidate mechanisms of action of medicinal agents, as well as enable fast throughput testing of candidate molecules for therapeutic efficacy and safety. Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities Lead the computational lab team in developing a data platform that integrates intra-cellular, cell-cell adhesion and cell-membrane-molecule interactions for drug discovery and understanding clinical outcome with current drug therapies Work with JHU-ICM to align software engineering for seamless data processing and collaboration between UT and JHU-ICM Conduct interviews, make hiring decisions, provide salary recommendations, monitor and assign work, coach, mentor and develop employees; develop work plans and conduct performance evaluations Represent the company both internally and externally with both the scientific and business communities Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements PhD in data science, computational biology, applied math or related fields Proven scientific leader with 4+ years of experience in developing and applying computational methods to novel problems across each phase of R&D Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills Mathematical modeling and simulation of biology, at the molecular, cellular, physiological, or pharmacological scales Background in cell biology and/or physiology Advanced computer skills and use of software application(s) including MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Knowledge of C/C++ Familiarity with the UNIX operating system Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Completed postdoctoral experience in related field Proven scientific leader with 7+ years of experience in developing and applying computational methods to novel problems across each phase of R&D A broad range of therapeutic expertise is desired Inter-disciplinary training in biomedicine and engineering Experience in numerical programming Background in pulmonary physiology or pathophysiology Multiscale modeling and simulation Matlab and/or Python
