This position is in the Sewer Maintenance Group (SMG) of WCD. Performs leadership, supervisory and administrative duties relating to the daily maintenance and construction activities associated with the wastewater collection system, to include inspection, cleaning, and testing. Assigns work to field staff. Prepares daily schedules and monitors routine and scheduled sewer line maintenance and inspection activities. Uses desktop and laptop computers and an asset management system with county GIS to review, create, edit and complete work orders. Ensures work is getting done, utilizing resources assigned to the workforce. Enforces safety requirements. Deals with citizens, other agencies and contractors in addressing inquiries and complaints. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Environmental Services supervisor.

SEWER MAINTENANCE GROUP: Performs sewer rodding, pressure cleaning, trouble response, pump and Haul, odor control, and sewer line inspection. Prepares daily schedules and monitors routine and scheduled sewer line maintenance and inspection activities. Reviews responses to citizen trouble calls for accuracy and completeness.

NOTE: Management positions are responsible for providing uninterrupted sewer service to residents during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies. This position may be designated as emergency service personnel at any time by the DPWES Director or Division Director. As such, this position is subject to 24-hour on-call and may be required to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents to fulfill emergency service duties.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the following: High School diploma or G.E.D. issued by a state department of education, and four years of increasingly responsible experience related to the maintenance of municipal facilities and infrastructure from either a public or private organization.

Experience in or knowledge of wastewater collection systems. Experience working in a field agency or with field staff. Experience using computers. Good written and verbal communication skills.

Valid driver's license.

The appointee to this position must also complete a criminal background check, driving record check and a pre-employment medical examination to the satisfaction of the employer as a condition of employment prior to appointment.

Maybe required to enter permitted confined spaces, using OSHA, certified non-entry retrieval system, which includes a safety harness with a weight restriction of 310 pounds. Must be able to walk on uneven ground such as hills, wooded and marshy areas. Must be able to lift/slide up to 90 pounds with assistance Must be capable of crouching or climbing in confined spaces. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel interview and may include a written exercise.
