Provides paraprofessional support to Human Service Workers who determine eligibility for public assistance programs. Uses automated technology to document, obtain, and verify information, and to generate reports including scanning of documents. Prepares and maintains statistical reports and records. Assists with the coordination and monitoring of the work unit. Provides backup for administrative aides as workloads and deadlines require. Interacts with county staff, community based organizations, and citizens to answer inquiries, problem solve and verify information that is needed. Identifies, researches, and solves service delivery problems. Works at the lobby front desk to assist clients and provide information and support teams, as required.

Note: This job announcement will be used to fill multiple full-time Human Services Assistant positions to work in the department's offices located in Annandale, Fairfax, Reston, or Alexandria.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or G.E.D. issued by state department of education; plus three years of work experience, including two years in some area of human services (related two-year [associate] degree may be substituted for the required human service experience).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Farsi, Arabic or Somali. Previous experience in working with the public and managing multiple tasks at one time. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience using automated technology. Clear and concise oral and written communications skills. Experience and ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse population.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to use automated technology and various programs associated with that technology. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
