Washington, DC office of our client seeks appellate attorney with 15+ years of experience. The candidate will manage appellate department by monitoring status of appeals, assigning evaluations for appeal once hearing on motion is completed, and coordinating with appellate secretary regarding the same. Will monitor daily appellate reports and review of legal periodicals to ensure the firm is up to date on current law. Draft law and motion, including oppositions to motions for summary judgment, demurrers, motions to strike, judgment on the pleadings, motions to quash, forum non conveniens, and oppositions to motions in limine before trial as needed. Evaluate motions as to the oppose-ability and the appeal-ability on a per case basis as it relates to the client file and draft recommendations to partner regarding the same. Maintain expert declarations and supporting foundation for use in law and motion practice. Maintain data base of law and motion. Research and brief issues, law, and legislation as requested by partners and draft memorandum. Manage Motions for Preference from consulting with MFP paralegal regarding health updates on clients, review of treating medical records, review and revise client declarations, doctor declarations, and expert declarations to drafting moving papers for CCP section 36(a), 36(e) and 36(d) motions. Efficiently write a high volume of motions and oppositions. Answer inquiries and questions regarding statutory procedure, case law, and various scenarios affecting practice. Should preferably have law journal, appellate writ or appeal experience, as is a background in trial court writ of mandate processes and strategies, trial advocacy training and/or trial experience.
