Nonprofit Montgomery seeks a passionate professional to lead a key organization in Montgomery County, Maryland. The successful candidate will build upon the organizations' accomplishments and almost 10 years of experience as the voice of the county's nonprofit sector with our government, philanthropic and business partners with the shared goal of a robust and healthy community in which all can thrive. The organization's mission is: “Nonprofit Montgomery strengthens nonprofits in Montgomery County, advocates for the sector, and catalyzes action to solve the communitys toughest challenges.” Nonprofit Montgomery is an alliance of nonprofit leaders in Montgomery County and serves as a network, information resource and advocate for our County's nonprofit sector. We work together to improve the quality of life for all residents of Montgomery County, where the nonprofit sector includes hundreds of organizations that serve more than 500,000 residents and provide more than 43,300 jobs. Nonprofit Montgomery includes 150 nonprofit members of all sizes and missions that provide a broad array of services: food, clothing, shelter, counseling, medical, dental and mental health care, substance abuse treatment, job training, legal services, after-school programming and educational support, as well as programs in the arts and those that work for a healthy environment. We serve an increasingly diverse county that is home to growing numbers of neighbors in need. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be a strong leader, communicator and advocate for the mission and programs of Nonprofit Montgomery. The Executive Director will ensure the organization is meeting its mission and is working towards achieving its strategic goals. The Executive Director will oversee the overall management of Nonprofit Montgomery which has an operating budget of just over $500,000 and a small, dedicated and talented staff and consulting team. The position is based in Rockville, MD and there is some flexibility with respect to telecommuting and work schedule. The Executive Director's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Governance: Position Nonprofit Montgomery to be an effective standalone nonprofit organization that is a model of best practices. Maintain and grow a strong, effective board Implement nonprofit governance best practices Financial Sustainability: Secure sustainable financial resources to fund the work of Nonprofit Montgomery. Create a long-term financial sustainability plan that includes studying the feasibility of strategies such as increased revenue from corporations and earned program revenue Grow membership dues Advocacy: Develop a strong advocacy capability to ensure a proactive, well-funded, and respected sector. Implement appropriate advocacy policies to ensure methods to gather member input and respond with flexibility and integrity to advocacy issues Develop a plan to support consistent advocacy efforts for the membership Programs: Deliver a cohesive mix of high quality programs that respond to the needs of Nonprofit Montgomery members, the sector and the community. Define a sustainable program mix in the areas of capacity building, leadership development, sector-strengthening, and advocacy that meets the members' needs and community needs Ensure effectiveness and relevance by seeking ongoing input and evaluation of outcomes Membership: Attract and maintain an engaged membership base that reflects the diversity of nonprofits in Montgomery County. Define and communicate member benefits and maintain a high level of member engagement Collective Action: Continue Nonprofit Montgomery's collective action work, specifically by supporting and enhancing the work of Montgomery Moving Forward. Showcase Nonprofit Montgomery as a catalyst for collective action in the county Qualifications: The strongest candidates for the Executive Director position will exhibit the following competencies and experiences: Proven leadership skills developed through several years in a nonprofit leadership and management position, experience working with a board a plus Excellent communication skills; especially the ability to gather, analyze and synthesize multiple perspectives to bring groups to consensus and/or represent the diversity of the sector Experience and demonstrated success in program development, implementation and evaluation/outcomes measurements Experience and understanding of budget formation, planning and forecasting Experience and demonstrated success in fundraising, including the ability to prospect for and write grant applications Understanding of issues related to the nonprofit sector and the people it serves Success with managing and inspiring large groups of members and/or volunteers Ability to collaborate as well as lead across sectors Ability to foster a healthy organizational culture, to encourage teamwork and collaboration; strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to inspire and motivate; experience managing personnel Familiarity with the culture of Montgomery County preferred The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred and 3-5 years leadership experience in the nonprofit sector or related equivalent experience. A combination of degree and experience may be considered.
