Assistant Manager, Individual Giving and Campaigns
The Kennedy Center is the nation’s performing arts center and living memorial to President John F. Kennedy. Located on the banks of the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., the Center presents more than 2,000 performances each year across all genres, and is also home to artistic affiliates Washington National Opera and National Symphony Orchestra. The Center reaches millions of students, teachers, and families each year through its local and national school and community partnerships, as well as performances and experiences for young audiences. In 2019, The REACH—the first expansion in the Center’s nearly 50-year history—will open, creating a 21st century arts campus which promotes both formal and informal artistic interactions, and ensures all visitors to the Center can have meaningful artistic interactions, whether on stage or behind the scenes.
The Individual Giving & Campaigns team seeks a motivated and creative individual to join our growing team in support of The REACH. The Assistant Manager, Individual Giving and Campaigns works with the Director, Individual Campaigns & Planned Giving in the planning, coordination, and execution of the Capital Campaign. This includes research, cultivation, and acquisition of new and current prospects. The incumbent manages his/her time efficiently, anticipates the needs of the Director, along with the Vice President of Individual Campaigns and the Senior Vice President of Development, and takes initiative to advance campaign strategies. This position alternates supervision of one intern.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide support to the Director, Individual Campaigns & Planned Giving, Vice President of Individual Campaigns, and Senior Vice President for all tasks surrounding the Capital Campaign including:
50% Manage and prepare donor research projects, communications, and collateral:
- Drafting and reviewing correspondence such as solicitation letters, gift agreements, tax receipts, and donor briefings
- Overseeing the development, design, and production of all Campaign collateral, both digital and print
- Preparing internal reference documents to facilitate communications within the building and public-facing progress reports to update stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees
30% Implement and manage processes and systems to ensure accurate tracking of all gifts, donor recognition, payments/invoicing, event logistics, and travel & meetings
20% Serve as a main point of contact and liaison for Development, Legal, and Finance teams; Kennedy Center senior leadership; and local and national external vendors
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum two to four years development or related experience required.
- Working knowledge of the performing arts is preferred.
Minimum Skills and/or Knowledge Required
- Superior and professional organizational, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Careful attention to detail and awareness of standard accounting procedures.
- Ability to foresee development needs, generate work for this position, and multitask efficiently.
- A clear understanding of the Kennedy Center mission, and an understanding of the ways in which a fundraising operation works within a large and complex institution.
- Ability to deftly manage many relationships and personality types - both internal among staff members, and external among constituents.
- Ability and confidence to work with moderate supervision.
- Experience with Tessitura is ideal.
