Adjunct Instructor, Data Science Program

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) invites applications for adjunct faculty positions in Data Science beginning August 2018.

Applicants must have a graduate degree in computer science, information systems, or a related professional field (Ph.D. or other terminal degree preferred) and at least three years of operational experience in the military, government, or private sector. A demonstrated history of publication, presentation, research, or professional outreach is helpful though not required. Previous university teaching experience is strongly preferred.  Key areas of interest include cluster computing, big data processing, data management and database design, secure software design, malicious software, operations/management, and information-age conflict.

Those invited to join the UMBC Graduate Data Science Program faculty will be expected to teach 1-2 courses per calendar year on UMBC’s main campus or UMBC’s Shady Grove campus, one evening a week for a fifteen-week semester.  Summer teaching opportunities also are available. Faculty may teach current courses or be invited to develop and deliver new courses to meet program growth. Opportunities also exist for faculty to supervise independent student research projects throughout the year and support UMBC’s ongoing research agenda in the computer science fields.

About the Program:  The UMBC Graduate Data Science Program is an interdisciplinary professional graduate program offering both a ten-course Master in Professional Studies (MPS) degree in Data Science and a four-course Graduate Certificate in Data Science.   For more information about the UMBC Graduate Data Science Program, please visit
