  • Education/Experience Requirements:
    To qualify at the GS-03 grade level: Applicants must have 6 months of general experience to include: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR

    Education: Applicants must have completed 1 full academic year of post-high school study; OR

    Education and Experience Combined: Applicants may possess a combination of general experience and education when combined equal a 100% to qualify: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

    To qualify at the GS-04 level: Applicants must have at least one (1) full year of general experience. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR

    Education: Applicants must possess at least (2) years of education above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school); OR

    Education and Experience Combined: Applicants must possess combination of general experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. To determine if you qualify based on a combination of general experience and education, first determine your education as a percentage; then determine your general experience as a percentage; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

    To qualify at the GS-05 level: Applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level. Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may include but is not limited to: typing and formatting correspondence and forms; obtaining information from files or general reference sources; work creating or maintaining physical or electronic files; OR

    Education: Applicants must possess at least four years of education above high school. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school).

    OR

    Have a combination of specialized experience and post-high school education which fully meets the qualification requirement of the position.

    This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

    NOTE: This is not a career ladder position. There is no promotion potential. Students have to compete in order to go to the next grade.

    Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules at the discretion of the employer.

    Tour of duty will be established so that it does not interfere with the academic schedule during the school year.

    Interns on a temporary (NTE) appointment earn sick leave. When such an appointment is less than 90 days, the Intern is entitled to accrue annual leave only after being currently employed for a continuous period of 90 days under successive appointments without a break in service. After completing the 90-day period of continuous employment, the Intern is entitled to be credited with the leave that would have accrued to him or her during that period.

    Interns on a temporary (NTE) appointment of at least one year may be eligible, depending on work schedule, to enroll in the Federal Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), the Federal supplemental dental and vision program (FEDVIP), and federal life insurance program (FEGLI).

    Interns are also eligible for transit benefits.
