Associate Director, Global Social Enterprise Initiative - McDonough School of Business

Georgetown's Global Social Enterprise Initiative (GSEI) brings the power and innovation generated by cross-sector partnerships to bear on the world's most pressing problems by emphasizing implementation and measureable social change. An initiative of the McDonough School of Business, GSEI strives to expose career professionals and students to how social, economic, and environmental (SEE) value can facilitate large-scale and lasting change.

The Associate Director serves as the de facto chief of staff, responsible for day-to-day management and operations of the Initiative, working with our team of 21 operations staff, project consultants, and student researchers; as well as managing and working directly with our 40+ GSEI Student Leader Team. S/he serves as lead project director, corporate partnership engagement manager, strategic and operations planner, and chief liaison with our student leaders. Reporting to the Initiative's Executive Director, the Associate Director has duties that include but are not limited to:

General Management

  • Manages daily operations of GSEI, working with direction from the Executive Director and in coordination with GSEI team members to support all of the various activities of the initiative.
  • Assists in crafting strategic and operational plans.

Business Development and Budgeting

  • Drafts project proposals to corporate, government and nonprofit clients.
  • Drafts sponsorship proposals and funding documents.
  • Writes and submits reports.
  • Manages budgeting with support from the Assistant Director.

Engagement Management

  • Serves as engagement manager on select projects with corporate, nonprofit and government clients.
  • Directs the GSEI Student Leader Program.

Communications Management

  • Develops and send communications materials, such as e-newsletter, social media, and other outreach.
  • Coordinates with MSB marketing and communications team members to generate press releases, and responds to media requests.

Contracts and Personnel

  • Recruits, hires, and trains consultants, executives in residence, researchers, and other personnel on GSEI's team.
  • Writes contracts and liaises with GU general counsel and tax offices, as well as with external grant making and partner service organizations, to finalize and execute agreements.

GSEI Student Leader Program and Graduate Assistants

  • Recruits Student Leaders, manages assignments, creates agendas for bi-weekly team meetings, and meets with student project leaders one-on-one as necessary.
  • Represents GSEI at select events and conferences within and outside of the University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree - preference for MBA or equivalent in professional experience
  • 7 to 10 years professional experience in organizational and project management - preference for experience in communications, management consulting, PR/public affairs, or equivalent client services industry experience
  • Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and contracts
  • Strong project leadership and people management skills
  • Proven ability to build authentic and strong relationships within and outside of the organization
  • Excellent writing and communications skills - ability to write well for external and internal audiences, including strategy documents, funder reports, and internal briefs, as well as newsletter articles, event programs, and client-facing communications
  • Strong proofreading expertise and direct social media experience
  • Passion for social enterprise, shared value, corporate responsibility, and social impact
  • Motivated by the challenge of working in a fast-paced and growing environment
  • Motivated, disciplined, adaptable, strategic communicator
