We are looking for an experiences Assistant Manager, Payroll to help lead the day-today activities of The Washington Post's payroll department. Do you have what it takes to succeed in this vital position? You'll be responsible for carrying out payroll preparation, processing and approval. You'll be expected to perform and manage related responsibilities including tax reporting, benefits-records administration and payroll systems maintenance.  You'll be tasked with overseeing a fast-paced team of payroll employees.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage all payroll processes (including daily oversight of payroll operations) to ensure accurate and timely payment of compensation in our Workday payroll system
  • Supervise the production of garnishments, union dues, pensions, and employment verifications
  • Provide payroll account analysis and reconciliation
  • Assist employees with payroll-related questions
  • Assist other payroll staff when needed
  • Stand in for processors when they are out
     

Requirements include:
 

  • 5+ years of experience supervising a payroll function
  • 1+ year in Workday system (required)
  • Proven customer service approach working with all levels of employees
  • Solid judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (with an emphasis on spreadsheet reporting software)
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet payroll deadlines and work effectively with others
  • Solid analytical/troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to be flexible with your work schedule (some holiday/weekend work may be required)
  • Experience with annual  employee reviews and setting goals
