BRIEF POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Higher Horizons is seeking a Family Engagement Specialist to work with our Early Head Start program, to establish and maintain respectful partnerships with families, support efforts of families in accessing community resources and assist families in crisis.  The candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of high-risk families, as well as supervise 3 Early Head Start Home Visitors.  The Family Engagement Specialist plans, directs and manages the activities and enduring change for children and families and is responsible for coordinating efforts to the quality, quantity and access of parenting education services, as well as promoting education and involvement of parenting education efforts.


  • BA/BS Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education or closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a supervisory or management role in a human services related organization, preferably in a Head Start or Early Head Start program
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences
  • Must be an efficient self starter and be able to work independently and with a team
  • Must be able to communicate in English in written and verbal forms (Bilingual Spanish or Arabic is preferred but not required
  • FBI Fingerprints, Criminal History and State Child Abuse Background Checks will be conducted
  • Two written professional references


  • $44,720-$47,320 per year (dependent upon related education and experience)
