BRIEF POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Higher Horizons DCC, Inc. has a vacancy for a full-time preschool Teacher Assistant to work in our Head Start Program at our Bailey's Crossroads/Falls Church, VA location.  The Head Start Teacher Assistant will work with the Lead Teacher to integrate the educational and school readiness aspects required of the federal Head Start Performance Standards, for a selected group of children and families.  The candidate will assist in implementing a comprehensive child development program for children aged 3 - 5 years.  As a member of the classroom, the candidate will provide children with a positive learning environment and with varied experiences to develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally.  Higher Horizons implements best practices in meeting the social, emotional and developmental needs of preschool children so that they are prepared for the kindergarten and elementary school experience.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • AA in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, Preschool CDA, or State ECE Teaching Certificate is required by federal standards
  • No less than 1 year of experience working with preschool children in a classroom setting
  • Must be an efficient, self-starter and be able to work independently
  • Must have computer skills for email, entry of child assessments and notes, and other data
  • Experience with Creative Curriculum, CLASS, Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ's
  • Prior Head Start program experience preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish or Arabic a plus - BUT NOT REQUIRED

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • $26,000 - $31,200 per year (commensurate with related education and experience)
