Photonics Consultant/Staff Physicist

Key Role:

Serve as a strategic consultant for high-risk government research and development programs related to integrated photonics, scalable on-chip devices, and sensor technologies. Work with world-class scientists in driving forward research efforts in new development of applications for novel technologies and the exploitation of cutting edge physics for new applications. Maintain and leverage technical expertise and relationships in serving clients. Provide strategic assessments of new technologies in support of senior decision-makers while conducting background research in evaluating feasibility and defense applications of new technological concepts. Produce and present findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients, assist with technical program management and program development, and brief materials out for government R&D efforts. Apply photonics expertise in the exploration of new technology concepts and the identification of knowledge gaps in need of investment and assist with monitoring and managing program progress for performance, risks, and issues. Draft technical briefings for both technical and public audiences, perform travel for program reviews, site visits, and performer testing, and work as part of a diverse team to meet client needs.

Basic Qualifications:

-2+ years of experience with authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences

-Experience with research in physics or applied physics

-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

-Ability to commute to Arlington, VA

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-PhD degree in Physics or Applied Physics

Additional Qualifications:

-2+ years of experience with postdoctoral or industry research

-Experience with defense research and development

-Knowledge of multiple physics disciplines a plus 

-Possession of excellent client service skills

-Active Secret clearance preferred
