ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST (LAW FIRM) NON-EXEMPT LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (metro-accessible via Farragut North Metro Station) REPORTS TO: Executive Director WORK WEEK: 37.5-hour work week; overtime earned for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week D.C.-based law firm seeks an Accounting Specialist to assist with billing, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other related tasks. The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for processing client bills; applying receipts; processing payroll; maintaining payroll records, taxes, and reports; processing new client matters; and preparing conflicts checks. The Accounting Specialist should be a team player and will regularly communicate with the Firm’s Executive Director, Accounting Manager, and Billing Supervisor. RESPONSIBILITIES: (Billing) >Accurately printing, reviewing, and finalizing client bills >Transmitting client bills >E-billing, as needed >Special billing projects, as needed (Payroll) >Accurately completing full-cycle payroll process, including regular, manual, and special bonus payroll throughout the year >Coordinating and ensuring the accuracy of all benefits and other deductions with the Human Resources Department >Accurately entering and maintaining demographic / salary data in payroll software >Preparing and transmitting data regarding 401(k) deferrals and loan repayments to 401(k) company after every payroll >Preparing and entering payroll journal entries under the supervision of the Accounting Manager >Preparing check requests for payroll withholdings (such as PAC) >Processing payroll, on time and accurately, in compliance with state and federal laws >Processing terminations and other manual check requests >Preparing annual census reports and other payroll reports as needed (Accounts Receivable) >Applying client payments on a daily basis >Generating reports, as needed (Accounts Payable) >Providing back-up support and performing AP activities, as needed (Other) >USPTO entry >Performing basic bookkeeping for the firm’s PAC >Filing firm lobbying reports >Opening new client matters >Conflicts checks >Collections, as directed by the Accounting Manager >Other accounting / administrative duties, as assigned REQUIREMENTS: >Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field >3-5 years of accounting experience required; law firm accounting experience a plus >Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and understanding of general / subsidiary ledgers concepts >Excellent teamwork skills >Accurate data entry ability >Proficiency in mathematics >Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills >Must be comfortable using a computer and have functional knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel; strong understanding of database systems and table structures related to computerized accounting software highly preferred Please submit your resume in Word format to firstname.lastname@example.org.
